This is the part 2 of my Island hopping tour ^DonEscapades^ in Siargao, Philippines.
As I had mentioned, on my previous blog: The Island hopping package tour included: Sohoton Bucas Grande Island + 3 Island Destinations (Guyam, Naked & Daku) which unfortunately we only managed to go 2 out of the 3 Islands because we came back almost sunset already due to the super big waves. So what I learned from my own experienced, I highly recommend doing a separate tour only for Sohoton & only for the 3 Island Destinations combine in a day instead, to enjoy the places and explore it better in a more relaxing way.
Yes, you read it right, NAKED ISLAND!
Friendly reminder: You don’t need to be a ^NUDIST^ to be on this island.
The nakedness of the island itself without any palm trees, just the fine white sand, the crystal cool clear water, and the scorching SUN that will really burn you because the place doesn’t have anything so that’s why it’s called the ^Naked Island^.
As you can see on the photo above, there is this little one single palm tree (newly planted). I guess someone is trying to plant on this island and hoping maybe the next time he/she comes back there will be at least one Palm tree that will give some shades under the very warm sunny weather. To avoid burning too much you better not forget to put on some EXTRA SUN LOTION, or otherwise you’ll end up looking like some crispy ^LECHON^ (it is a typical grilled/stuffed roast pig with brick red colour on its skin).
Extra INFO: Lechón in Spanish is a Filipino pork dish in several regions of the world, most specifically in Spain and its former colonial possessions throughout the world. Lechón is a Spanish word referring to a roasted suckling pig. From: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lechon
The island feels like you are stranded out of nowhere, because there is nothing to see of it but I guess that’s the beauty of this place. We came when it’s almost an hour or two hours before the sunset, so we didn’t really feel the sun burning us that much. We did take lots of photos, swimming here and there and walking around. I personally enjoyed watching everyone having fun while taking their photos and saw how relax their faces were, and that just made me realized how this island offers a tranquil haven of peace and serenity, away from the normal bustle of the city. I would definitely go back here and try to go on a different time just to see the different beauty of this place and experience again the serenity of this place in the future.
Daku which means Big in english is one of the 3 Island Destinations which is one of the popular tours that most tourist do when visiting in Siargao Philippines.
We came when it’s almost half or an hour before sunset. What I noticed when we arrived is the powdery white sand, how clear turquoise colour of the water and lots of coconut trees. Too bad that we didn’t came earlier and enjoy this island.
What I learned about the place:
- If you are planning of staying here the whole day you can rent a hut for a day or over lunch.
- You can bring your own food and have a picnic or if you want something cooked that can be arranged as well (there are local restos that offering their fresh catch). But if you came here with a tour they probably made the arrangement beforehand so you don’t need to think too much about it.
- There is a ^Sari-sari store^ or a small shop where you can buy basic small things u need for a day.
- It is a very good island for swimming and sunbathing.
- And the best part: there are few people living in this island so it is very secluded which I like the most and there where really friendly.
- Plus for those beach volleyball enthusiasts, yes there is a space wherein you can play and have fun with the locals.
Extra INFO: A sari–sari store, or neighborhood sundry store, is a convenience store found in the Philippines. The word sari-sari is Tagalog meaning “variety” or “sundry”. From: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sari-sari_store
I would definitely be back here for a longer stay next time and to experience a longer lovely tranquility of this place better. Although, we didn’t manage to visit the Guyam Island (which is one of the 3 Island Destinations) that time but there is always a NEXT TIME. What matters most was that we had INDEED A LOVELY TIME the entire day that me and my best friend would definitely CHERISH for the rest of our lives. I would highly recommend these 3 Island Destinations to beach lovers. A double thumbs up indeed.
